"American cars are for ignorant white trash who are fine with shoddy workmanship, substandard engineering, and boring design" ...Apparently.
Okay random internet dude, okay...

Because America is the only place that has had shoddy workmanship. Because Italy, France, Britain, and Germany all make perfect cars that never go wrong...

Literally what I thought the whole time I was reading the thread. And this is exactly what someone pointed out to them. I wasn't about to comment though.

Dude, Leyland is who Toyota took inspiration from for their reliability.

Stigma takes a while to get over. If you go back just ten years this is what you get.

And don't forget about England - the land where everything produced works perfectly all the time.

Lucas did not invent darkness, of course. They invented sudden, unexpected darkness.

Actually, that is how Japanese cars took off lol. When people realized they could buy something cheaper that actually started , the rest became history.

You could make this argument for a few countries though. Mostly Japan IMO.
A lot of companies were making bland and uninspired things in the early 2000s. The only place making stuff that was good was the Germans, and that was plagued with unreliability.

The difference, especially with Toyota and Honda is the quality of materials were higher in their products. American cars were plagued with quality issues for decades. That Camry posted is probably doing fine, but the Taurus I posted probably has some rust issues on the rear wheel wells and a sagging rear end.
That Corolla is probably up in the 150,000 mile range and still kicking and the Aveo, well, a lot of things probably have gone wrong with the Aveo.

The rust and sagging rear end on the Taurus are due to the owner's neglect most likely and not Ford's quality. My girlfriend drove a '98 Camry that had rust in the rear wheel wheels and suspension issues until the motor blew at 121k and now she drives an '02 Taurus that still looks and drives factory fresh at almost 150k.
Wouldn't it be more appropriate to compare the Corolla to a Cavalier, a car that does not die. The Aveo is more Echo sized.

Probably, even then all you have to do is look at the sale prices of those cars to see which ones are more desirable in the market. From my local CL, 2004 Chevy Cavalier LS Sport, 78,000 miles price is $4,600. Compare that to a 2004 Toyota Corolla LE with 68,000 miles price is $7500. Hell my GP would pull about $5,000 in the used market, the equivalent Camry would pull $7,000, with less equipment.
And my uncle had multiple of those Taurus's. Swore by them, but no matter how well he took care of them rust always hit the rear wheel wells. Its the Ford curse.
I'm not saying these are bad cars, they just dont use the highest quality materials. And that was 10 years ago, the game is much different today.

People are just bothered that we're making better cars than the Germans right now.
